How does an inverter generator work?

If you are going to buy a new generator you may face a confusion between different types of generator available in the market. What types of generators do you need? It depends on the use. There are different types of generator available such as standby, portable, standard, inverter, and on and on. Don’t be confused. We are “Think and Find” here to help you. Today we will discuss the inverter generator briefly so that you can determine which one should you buy.

The basic difference between an inverter and traditional generator is small but the  impact of the inverter is huge.

It helps to protect your sensitive devices such as smartphones, Tvs, Laptops  as well consume less fuel to generate power and produce more clean power according to your need.

To briefly understand the inverter generator at first you need to know the basics of a generator.

In the generator there are two main parts, An engine and an alternator. Engine consumes fuel and turns on a gear shaft. Generally the generator engine uses Gasoline or propane. The alternator has two main parts also – a rotor and a stator. The engine turns the rotor which generates power in the stator. The power moves to the control panel and we use this power to run various appliances, power tools and more.

In the traditional generator power produced by the alternator goes directly to the control panel. It may go through a voltage regulator or some other protective devices but the power is not perfectly cleaned up before using in the devices. The traditional generator has a higher “THD” where THD stands for total harmonic destron. “THD” is referred to as a measurement of clean energy procured in a moment.

The inverter generator works differently. The Alternative Current (AC) power produced by the alternator converts to Direct Current (DC) by a rectifier.

The DC power is inverted back to AC current by a computer inside the generator. Then the current delivered to the control panel. As because this process is going through an inverted process, this is called an inverter generator.

Here the power is controlled by a computer so that it produces less THD which protects sensitive devices.

The lower THD means more clean energy and our devices expect more clean energy from the power source.

As the power is controlled so it does not produce the same power if you don’t not need. So it saves fuel, minimizes the cost and protects our devices.

What is the advantage of an inverter generator?

Instead of running full time an inverter generator throttles up and down to increasing and decreasing demands of electricity. So that it consumes less fuel if their load is lower. An inverter generator produces low emission and generally it produces very lower noise.

What is the difference between a generator and an inverter generator?

Inverter generator has a lot of advantages from a traditional generator. They are smaller, lighter and quieter than traditional generators. An inverter generator is more devices friendly as they produce clean energy.
